If you’ve ever had to take Prednisone for any length of time, you will connect with what I’ve posted and tweeted about. The side effects are awful, there is really no way to avoid them and they linger long after you’ve taken your last pill. With the holidays just a few weeks away, I wanted to make a list of things that help me cope with it all. I high suggest everything I am about to show you, it has been tested by me with roid rage!
Clarisonic Mia 1– My poor face erupted from acne thanks to the steroids, so after a visit to the dermatologist I grabbed a Mia 1. It is one speed, which is all I needed. I use it twice a day and my skin has cleared up substantially. You can buy it anywhere, always check for the best deal! But don’t forget to register your brush on their website for $25 off a purchase. I scored enough brush heads for a year.
Sonicare Toothbrush– I have one similar to the photo above, all that is missing is the UV sanitizer for the brush heads. My hematologist stressed the importance of oral hygiene, especially because of how sensitive my teeth have become in the last 7 months. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, be sure to check Amazon and Groupon for some great deals. I noticed right away that my teeth and gums felt cleaner, I also didn’t have any issues with bleeding. The travel case and charger come in handy for people who travel. An extra bonus: the brush heads last 3 months!
Head/Neck Massager- This particular one is from Sharper Image. I have one that my father got back in like 1994, it still works and it is a life saver! It comes in handy when I can’t sleep, have a headache or am experiencing those stupid Prednisone pains. Getting one with heat that is battery operated is your best bet. Cords get in the way and can rip/break. These make great gifts for people who don’t even know what Prednisone is, like your high strung boss, or you child’s stressed out teacher.
A Fan or Air Purifier-No one likes sweating, especially not those of us with roid rage. I have a pretty awesome air purifier/fan combo that I use. It might not be necessary for everyone to have the purifier so even just a cheap $20 floor fan can be appreciated by those of us plagued with hot flashes. If the person you are shopping for is a tech geek, Dyson makes some pretty fancy blade-less fans. You will win cool points.
Some other ideas include: soft sheets, super absorbent towels, memory foam bath mats, a nice robe, spandex clothing, comfortable slippers, personal training sessions/gym membership, spa services, restaurant gift cards, and heating pads.
